Perfectly Imperfect

A series of posters and other projects that explore both ugliness and paradox.

In the Spring of 2023, I took a week-long study abroad trip to Italy, which gave me the opportunity to explore Milan, Rome, and Florence.

In Milan, I and the group toured the fashion square, before checking out the flagship store of Prada in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Prada, as a brand, is known for it’s “ugly chic” aesthetic. Many of the bags that I saw in the store had creases in them - they were by no means perfect. And yet, Prada continually sets the standard as a high-end Italian luxury brand. Miuccia Prada, lead designer, is quoted as saying that “Ugly is attractive, ugly is exciting. Maybe because it is newer.”

For some reason, this “exploration of ugliness” stood out to me. Not only because of it’s importance to the fashion world, but as an allegory to life itself. Not everything is perfect - at times, it is ugly - but it is in the imperfection in which we find the perfection in it all.

Perfectly imperfect is a passion project of mine. it’s a series of posters and other creative projects that explores the beauty in the ugly, the imperfection in the perfection. As I write this, this project is still continuing. I’m not sure how long I’ll work on it - or, perhaps, how long it will work on me.
