The Agency at Quinnipiac needed to redesign their print collateral and website to implement their new visual identity and communicate their services and work to both potential applicants and clients. Founded in 2017, the full service student-run agency was looking to further increase their visibility on-campus. A logo refresh had been previously conducted in the beginning of 2023, but had yet to be fully implemented in the organization’s communications. Although the main project was to overhaul the website, the business cards and flyers of the group also had to be redesigned.
Research
Along with the Account Executives, visual research was conducted on the websites of other student-run agencies. These included Unleashed PR (Boston University) and The Agency at UF (University of Florida), of which the team liked the layouts and information architectures of. The decision was made to organize the site in a similar manner, highlighting the team members, work, and services of The Agency. The look and feel of the site would also serve as inspiration for the print collateral.
A discussion was made on whether or not to attach Quinnipiac University to The Agency. Although there were pros to not connecting the group to the university, such as the appearance of being more professional, the decision was made to continue to attach Quinnipiac to the organization as the institution is an integral part to both the established logo and experience as a whole.
Print Design
Two flyers were created for The Agency. The goal of the first one was to inform the audience about what The Agency is, while the second was made to encourage students to apply. Icons were used to represent each of the four functional teams, and the text was produced by the Content and Copy team.
A new business card was also created for The Agency to give to potential clients and applicants at on-campus events and other functions.
Website
The first step to redesigning the site was to create the layout of the homepage; the initial page viewers would see. Once the layout and elements of the homepage were designed, the visual language was then translated to the about, work, services, and contact pages. For consistency, the same icons used in the flyers also represented the different teams and services offered on the site.
Two different photoshoots – professional individual and group portraits and a staged documentary shoot – were also done in order to be more reflective of the current group. In addition, video footage was taken in order to use in the homepage’s banner video.
Results
The new collateral and website proved effective in contributing to an increase in applications for The Agency in 2023. Since the redesigns, The Agency has continued to grow in the number of applications and campus visibility each semester.
